What is Saint Jude known for? ›

Jude is the Patron Saint of Hope and impossible causes and one of Jesus' original twelve Apostles. He preached the Gospel with great passion, often in the most difficult circ*mstances. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, he made profound differences in people's lives as he offered them the Word of God.

Rooted in Catholic faith, St. Jude School goes above and beyond in guiding the spiritual growth and development of educational foundations for individual learners, while preparing students for lifelong service to God and others.

According to one account, Jude's body was brought from Beirut to Rome and placed in a crypt in St. Peter's Basilica which is visited by many devotees. His bones are in the left transept of St. Peter's Basilica under the main altar of St. Joseph, in one tomb with the remains of the apostle Simon the Zealot.

St. Jude intertwines healing with hope. In choosing to channel our healing needs through prayer to St. Jude, we likewise make a choice for hope—trusting that good will come in its variety of life-giving forms.

Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was considered largely incurable. Since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate from 20% to more than 80%, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer. Find other ways to support our mission.

Jude's Children's Hospital, founded by the late actor Danny Thomas and endorsed by numerous celebrities, has been slammed in a just-out report for its financial practices, and for using at least half of its fundraising on administrative and marketing tasks. It also accused the Memphis hospital of “hoarding” its funds.

What was Jude's relationship to Jesus? ›

Jude was described by St. Matthew (13:55) as being one of the “brethren” of Jesus (the Hebrew word for “brethren” indicates a blood relationship of some sort). Jude's mother, Mary, was referred to as a cousin of Jesus' mother Mary, while his father, Cleophas, was the brother of St. Joseph.

Saint Jude Thaddeus

Brother of James the Lesser and cousin of Jesus, Jude was one of Christ's earliest followers. He earned his title of Patron Saint of Impossible Causes because of a letter he wrote in 60AD to persecuted Christian converts in the East, exhorting them to stay strong in the face of all difficulties.
