National Canadian Bacon Day is celebrated on March 3 each year. This holiday is perfect for those who love the taste of bacon but want something with lower calories than the real deal.

This is not the only day that bacon is celebrated. December 30 is also National Bacon Day and International Bacon day is celebrated on the Saturday before Labor Day.

What is Canadian bacon?

Canadian bacon is a pork product that is cut from the back of the pig. In contrast, American bacon, with the streaky cured and smoked strips is cut from the pork belly, which is higher in fat.

The term Canadian bacon is not used in Canada. There, the product is known as back bacon.

The flavor of Canadian bacon is thought of as more of a ham-like taste because of the lean cut of the product.

Ingredients

  • 1 English Muffin
  • I slice of Canadian Bacon
  • 1 tsp whipped butter
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese
  • 1 Egg

Instructions

  1. Toast the English muffin and spread it lightly with the whipped butter.
  2. Cook the egg on one side and flip and cook the other side.
  3. Layer the egg, Canadian Bacon and cheddar cheese on the bottom of the English muffin.
  4. Top with the other half and serve.

Notes

If you want you can lightly heat the Canadian bacon in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it up.
