How to Make 3 Ingredient Chicken for Two in a Crock Pot

Aunt Lou here.

From the first time I made 3 Ingredient Crock Pot Chicken, my family was hooked! They love it because the flavor is great, and the chicken is tender and juicy. I love it for those reasons and that it is incredibly easy to put together. When thinking of the next recipe I wanted to adapt for our readers that ask for recipes with two servings, I knew this would be a great one to try!

If you look at the original recipe and this recipe side by side, you will probably notice that the cooking time is much shorter. The reason for this is that the crock pot isn’t near as full with a recipe for two as it is when there are six servings. So, it cooks up faster. You will want to watch it closely to make sure you know exactly when the center of your chicken reaches at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit in your unit. We prefer the texture of the chicken when it reaches 170 degrees, but that is totally a preference thing and not a food safety thing.

FAQs

How do you cook two things in one crock pot? ›

You want to use tinfoil that can hold its shape and stand on its own. Once you create a tinfoil wall that can snugly fit in the center of your slow cooker, take the wall out and line your device with a slow cooker liner. You can then re-insert your tinfoil wall and begin to add your desired ingredients.

How long does it take to cook two chicken breasts in a crockpot on low? ›

Place the chicken and stock, broth, or water in a 4-quart or larger slow cooker. Cook the chicken. Cover and cook until the chicken is tender and registers an internal temperature of 165°F, 4 to 5 hours on the LOW setting, or 2 to 3 hours on the HIGH setting.

How do you make crockpot chicken not tough? ›

Add chicken broth and butter to slow cooker, and stir to combine (mash the butter up a bit to disperse if you can). Add the chicken to the slow cooker, overlapping only as much as necessary. Cover and cook on low for 3 hours or until an internal temperature of 165 degrees F is reached.

Can you cook chicken in crockpot on high for 2 hours? ›

It's not too dry, not too wet… and it's easy to shred. To make it, simply put your boneless skinless chicken breasts or boneless skinless chicken thighs in the slow cooker, season with any seasonings you want to add, cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or on high for 2 hours. That's it!

Can you cook two things at once in a slow cooker? ›

You can cook two different dishes at the same time. Cooking time and speed can be different as well. I can't really think of a way to cook 2 separate meals in one crockpot unless you use the same sauce and vegetables but put in two proteins, like pork and beef. You could separate it out when it was cooked.

Is it better to cook chicken on high or low in crockpot? ›

We found that the only way to cook chicken (and turkey) in a slow cooker is on the low setting and for a relatively short amount of time.

Can I put raw chicken in a slow cooker? ›

Yes, you can put raw chicken in a slow cooker! Slow cookers and Crock-Pots are designed to cook raw meats. The direct heat from the pot, lengthy cooking time and steam created from the tightly covered container destroys bacteria, making slow cooking safe. You can put frozen chicken in a slow cooker, too!

How do you keep chicken from falling apart in a slow cooker? ›

To combat this I suggest two things:
  1. Thighs instead of breasts. They have more fat and thus even if they go to a shredded state it will still be imbued with flavor.
  2. Brining. Soak it at least overnight in heavily salted water.

How do I keep chicken from drying out in the crockpot? ›

Chicken pieces, particularly chicken thighs and legs, will dry out less quickly and maintain their texture best when layered on top of other ingredients. Plus, this helps to flavor the entire dish as the chicken cooks and releases juices.

Why is my crockpot chicken rubbery? ›

Aside from accidentally overcooking the meals, the most common reason we see for tough, rubbery, or overdone chicken is customers using a Crockpot that is far too big.

Does chicken get more tender the longer you slow cook it? ›

Yes, chicken breast will get softer the longer you cook it. However, if you cook it for too long, it will become dry and tough. The best way to ensure that the chicken breast stays juicy and tender is to cook it until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Is 3 hours on high the same as 6 on low crockpot? ›

Change cooking times depending on your schedule. One hour on HIGH generally equals two hours on LOW.

Do you need to put liquid in the slow cooker when cooking chicken? ›

As long as the breast pieces are in a single layer, in contact with the slow cooker, then no, it's not necessary to add any chicken broth or chicken stock. If you're doing multiple layers, you will need to add liquid to cover the meat, but I don't recommend this. The seasonings won't stick as well.

How do you cook two dishes at the same time? ›

Set your oven to the average temperature needed for all the dishes to accommodate them in the oven at the same time. If one dish requires a temperature of 400℉ and another needs to bake at 450℉, set the temperature to 425℉.

How to separate items in a crockpot? ›

You just mold a few sheets of heavy duty foil—the kind that's hard to crumple, that basically stands up on its own—to form a wall in the center of your slow cooker. Shape it so it fits snugly, then place a Slow Cooker Liner to cover both halves, so the dips stay separated.

How do you stack food in a crock pot? ›

Layer wisely: For even cooking, cut food into uniform-size pieces. Place firm, slow-cooking root vegetables like potatoes and carrots at the bottom of the crock and pile the meat on top.

What is the difference between 1 and 2 setting on a crock pot? ›

The “I” setting is low, the “II” is high and the one with the cooking pot is the keep warm function.
